Summary

Spinewell is a predatory biomechanical entity composed of repurposed vertebral matter, semi-liquid nerve growth, and long-range auditory trauma fields. Believed to have formed during the aftermath of an internal Black Veil experimentation breach, it resides exclusively in collapsed vertical spaces and expresses behavior similar to burrowing prey-seekers.

Spinewell is not a scavenger. It builds with what it kills.

Description

Spinewell measures approximately 3.8 meters from spinal root coil to facial anchor. Its lower body consists of a densely interlocked spiral of vertebrae stolen from multiple species—including human, primate, and unknown avian structures. This “tail” corkscrews through vertical shafts such as elevator shafts, stairwells, or mine bores.

Its torso is constructed of stretched bone mesh and calcified ligaments. Four disjointed arms, each terminating in bone-piercing hooks, extend unnaturally from its shoulder cluster. The face has no eyes, but instead a single protrusion of spinal tissue where a nose should be, with two jaw hinges positioned on either side of its head, allowing for vertical consumption.

When idle, the entity retracts into confined vertical tunnels and remains motionless for hours or days. When motion is detected above or below, it enters an aggressive state, ascending or descending at speeds exceeding 50 km/h.

Victims pulled into its range are typically dismembered, and their spinal columns are removed whole—often without disturbing surrounding tissue. The extracted spines are woven into its central coil within minutes.

Spinewell does not eat. It incorporates.

In ambient silence, the anomaly emits faint scratching noises, followed by a soft, wet echo of the target’s name. Recovered footage often degrades into low-frequency hums punctuated by screams that were never made.

It does not climb. It rises.

Containment Procedures

As of 2025-05-07, all vertical shafts within Site-09C are to be sealed with steel-reinforced resin and reclassified as contamination zones. No shaft is to remain longer than 4 meters in unbroken depth.

Acoustic sensors are to be installed in all sublevel corridors to detect pre-engagement friction clicks. Personnel are to wear randomized bone density scramblers in their vests. This reduces the risk of targeted extraction by 17%.

If a subject reports the sensation of “having a spine full of needles” or hears their own voice whispering from below, they are to be sedated and quarantined immediately.

Drone footage into Spinewell chambers is forbidden unless authorized by Command Tier Delta or higher.

Incident Logs

INCIDENT SPN-7C-14
Security Operator D'Vane reported hearing the laughter of her deceased son coming from shaft C-7. Despite protocol, she descended alone. Her body was recovered two days later in Segment 3—entirely intact, except her spinal cord, which was missing and replaced with woven rebar.

LOG SPN-CAM-FR12
Footage recovered from elevator shaft cam FR-12 shows the creature ascending slowly. At timestamp 03:44, it halts and emits a series of clicks resembling Morse code: "No more stairs. No more stairs. No more stairs."

The shaft was found filled with vertebrae arranged like steps.

INCIDENT SPN-09C-ECHO
Tactical drone Echo-3 sent down mine shaft C11 captured partial audio:

“I was supposed to hold you upright. That’s what bones do. Why did you leave me crooked?”

Following this, the drone feed was consumed in static and the feed logged a new line on its own: SPINEWELL SEES.

The drone was never recovered.

Analysis

Spinewell does not act like a wild animal. Its targeting, stalking, and construction patterns resemble grief more than instinct. The creature builds staircases from the remains of its victims—ascending from the bottom of shafts as though trying to reach something it once knew above.

Biological scans of woven spinal coils revealed trace DNA from pre-collapse Black Veil agents who were never reported missing, suggesting retroactive displacement or selective erasure.

Attempts to fully document the entity’s rise pattern have resulted in corrupted records. All attempts to install descending anchor locks below it have failed. It destroys everything designed to lower it further.

Dr. Halvek theorizes that Spinewell was created as a metaphor. A thing we buried that refused to lie still. Its every motion is a question:

Why didn’t you come back down to save me?

We don’t have an answer. But it's climbing.
